8 years ago, I accepted a project that almost ruined me…
A client reached out for what was supposed to be a “simple” project. Budget: €5,000 (it was a lot for me at that time). Estimated duration: two weeks. I said yes without asking enough questions because at that time I thought securing the money was more important than securing the structure…
The project lasted six months; I invested more than 400 hours, I had to turn down three other clients because I simply did not have the capacity anymore. When I calculated my real hourly rate at the end, I had earned around €12.50 per hour. Less than minimum wage for work that was supposed to reflect expertise!
I was exhausted, frustrated, and deeply angry at myself!
Not at the client. At myself!!
Because it was not their responsibility to protect my boundaries; it was mine. I had accepted a project without a clear scope, without a detailed contract, without a structured process for modifications. I said yes to every “just one more thing” because I was afraid of losing the relationship…
Every “just” cost me hours, energy and positioning.
That experience taught me three lessons that changed everything:
FIRST, a detailed contract is non-negotiable. Scope, number of revisions, timeline, out-of-scope fees, everything must be written clearly before you start.
SECOND, “no” is a complete sentence when it protects your business model. You can say, “This request is outside the initial scope, I can absolutely add it for an additional €2,000,” without apologizing or justifying endlessly.
THIRD, clients respect visible structure. When you do not define limits, clients ASSUME FLEXIBILITY, when you define them clearly, clients feel reassured.
Today, my contracts are thorough, my processes are structured, my boundaries are visible. And do you know what happened? My clients did not disappear. They felt SAFER. They trusted me more because I was leading the project instead of reacting to it!
Premium positioning is not only about pricing; it is about protecting your time, your energy, and your authority.
Quick question now: are you currently working inside a structure that protects you… or inside one that slowly drains you?
If you want the visual codes, positioning frameworks, and structured tools that help you operate at a higher standard, that is exactly why I created The Luxury Toolbox.
The Luxury Toolbox is a $149 strategic kit built to help you refine your visual identity, align your pricing, and communicate premium with intention across every touchpoint. It is not free and it is not theoretical; it is structured, practical, and built for entrepreneurs ready to elevate.
