“It’s too expensive.”
That sentence makes most entrepreneurs shrink immediately and that reaction is exactly the problem!
Let me tell you something uncomfortable…
If someone tells you “It’s too expensive,” there is a very high probability that you either qualified badly… or positioned poorly.
But when the objection comes up, here is how you handle it without losing authority:
–>Response 1: Clarify.
“Too expensive compared to what?”
This forces the prospect to reveal the comparison. Most of the time, they are comparing completely different levels of service. When they say, “Compared to someone charging €2,000,” you calmly respond by explaining the difference in transformation, scope, outcome. Not defensively –> structurally!
–>Response 2: Reframe.
“I understand. The real question isn’t whether it’s expensive; it’s whether it’s worth the investment.”
Then bring the focus back to value; If your work helps them multiply their prices, reposition their brand, generate €100,000 more per year, the investment becomes contextual.
–>Response 3: Qualify.
“I completely understand. May I ask what budget you had in mind?”
If they say €3,000 and you charge €20,000, you are simply not in the same tier. That is not a rejection; that is misalignment…
“I might not be the right fit at that budget, and that’s okay.”
Authority is calm; not aggressive!
–>Response 4: Own it.
“You’re right. It is expensive. Because it’s exceptional. If you’re looking for the cheapest option, I’m not the right person. If you’re looking for the right transformation, let’s talk.”
That sentence filters instantly. Price hunters disappear, premium clients lean in!
But here is the deeper truth:
–>The best way to handle “It’s too expensive” is to never hear it.<–
When your positioning is sharp, your communication clear, your qualification strong, price resistance decreases dramatically. Premium clients rarely ask that question because they already understand the level…
Now here is the real reflection: are you facing a sales objection… or a positioning problem?
