7 years ago, I cried in my car after a client meeting…
Everything had gone well on the surface; the client loved the work, the energy was good and the project was a success! And yet, I had just agreed to lower my price… again.
He had said, “I love your work. But I can get something similar for less. Can you make an effort?” And instead of standing firm, I adjusted… I told myself it was strategic, it was temporary, I would fix it next time (you know the story I’m sure…)
Driving home, I felt something heavy in my chest. Not because of the money but because I knew I had just shown the market that my standards were negotiable…
That realization hurt…
In that car, I understood something brutal: every time I discounted myself, I was teaching people how to treat me. I was proving that my positioning depended on their approval…
And that night, I made a decision that I have never broken since:
NEVER AGAIN
Never again would I lower my prices out of fear! Never again would I negotiate myself before the client even tried.!Never again would I act as if my work needed to be justified!!
Did it feel uncomfortable at first? Yes. Did I lose some prospects? Of course. But something shifted immediately: my posture changed, my tone changed, my boundaries became visible…
The conversations became cleaner and the respect became natural. The clients who stayed valued the work differently because I valued it first!
Premium positioning does not start with a pricing grid; It starts with a line you decide not to cross!
The day I stopped discounting myself was the day my brand stopped feeling fragile!
So let me ask you something honestly: where are you still compromising… just to avoid being rejected?
