The Importance of Collaboration

In the wedding industry, photographers and videographers often work side by side to capture the magic of a couple’s special day. However, let’s be honest, without proper collaboration and communication, the final product can turn into a bit of a mess. Here are three domains Kevin and I think optimize this collaboration that can lead to a more productive and harmonious working relationships.

1. Working with Walkie Talkies

Talkies are the best! Have you ever worked with talkies? It’s the best way to have efective communication on the wedding day.

Here’s how walkie talkies can help:

• Instant Updates: Use walkie talkies to stay in constant contact throughout the event. This helps in coordinating movements and ensuring that neither party misses important shots.
• Quick Problem Solving: If an issue arises, you can quickly communicate and resolve it without causing any disruptions. We’ve all been there, when you are about to take an amazing shot and someone gets in the way, drama.

2. Sharing the Lighting

Lighting is also critical for both photography and videography. Instead of getting in each other’s way, let’s make each others lives easier and collaborate:

• Discuss Lighting Setups: Before the event, discuss and agree on the lighting setups. Ensure that the lighting is suitable for both photography and videography to avoid any conflicts.
• Adjust as Needed: Be flexible and willing to adjust the lighting to accommodate each other’s needs, ensuring the best possible results for both.

3. Collaboration with Drones

Drones can add a unique perspective to wedding coverage but can also be a challenge.

I recently asked a videographer to take 3 to 5 shots with their drone so that I didn’t need to bring mine and be fighting for air space. They were not interested, they said they just wanted to focus on video, but you know what is going to happen? I still need the drone shots, so I will bring mine and now as Kevin mentioned, it all becomes about being worried if we might crash and being stressed all the time. We have a better solution, here’s how to handle it:

• Single Drone Operation: To avoid chaos and ensure safety, agree to use only one drone. This prevents the risk of collisions and ensures smoother aerial shots.
• Authorization and Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary authorization for drone usage. Coordination ensures that all legal requirements are met and that the drone is used effectively.
