As a wedding photographer for 10 years now, I can tell you I’ve seen how the concept of engagement sessions started years ago, when I had to explain in details the idea of it, facing my lost couple’s look, and how now it’s actually the couples who are asking for it. I’m not going to complain, I love these sessions, and for many reasons:

Knowing your photographier and being confortable during the wedding day.

If it’s hard for you to imagine someone you’ve never met, being next to you during the whole day, with a camera on you, it’s actually hard for us too! We know you without knowing you, we don’t feel confortable asking you to do that or this, and we know we’re going to spend 10 minutes at least during the couple shoot, just to explain to you how to pose and to make you feel confortable in front of the camera.

Doing an engagement session, it’s like doing a pre-wedding couple session, but without the stress of the day, without the hundred guests around you, without the tik-tok of the timing to don’t spend your entire cocktail doing pictures.  You have the time, you are just with your wedding photographer, and so you have time to know the person that is going to be next to you all day! The double effect is that your photographer is going to be suddenly your best friend during the wedding!

Being confortable in front of the camera

Some of my couples have been following me for years now! And from the very first engagement session to the family shoot years later, I can tell you that now, they know how to pose, and they are comfortable with me and my camera! It’s not easy and natural, unless your are a star or an influenceur, to be “real” with a lens and a stranger watching you. Doing an engagement session, it’s being like a star on a catwalk after 2 hours!

The opportunity to have beautiful civil pictures

Do you have beautiful pictures of both of you? I mean, with a beautiful dress, a suit, a make-up artist and a hairstylist taking care of you? Not your everyday, hum? That is the other good side of the engagement session. You’ll finally have beautiful pictures of you, not particularly with your wedding outfits!

Communication: favorite profil & complexes

I have this thing with my nose, and you? We all have something we don’t like, or a side we prefer, or look we love… It’s the perfect moment to tell everything to your photographer, and to test in action, the result. And maybe to realize you are prettier than you can imagine!

A personalized guest book 

What to do with all these pictures? A guest book! Ask your photographer if it’s something he can make, as the quality will be better for sure. Some pictures, some white spaces, and the images are going to inspire your guests for funny words, maybe some illustrations, and for you to keep an original memory from your guests!

Save time during the wedding day

Everytime I finish the couple session during the wedding day, after having done an engagement session, they all say « OMG happily we did the engagement session before! ». Yes, because suddenly you realize all the time you spent during the pre-wedding session just to be relax and to learn how to pose, and you imagine how it would have been possible to put that during the couple wedding session we just finished. Yes, instead of 15 minutes, I would have need one hour. And it’s all the time you won’t spend with your guests…

Every bride-to-be is scared about the result of the wedding pictures. Let me be more specific. Every bride-to-be is scared about how pretty she’ll be on her wedding pictures.
